How the Snake Rankings Work

Snake is the original grow-and-survive arcade game — eat fruit, get longer, never crash. On CPSCount there are two ranked ways to play the classic snake game online. Infinite mode ranks you by your highest score, with the run time shown for context; Level mode ranks you by the highest level you reach.

Infinite Mode — Highest Score Wins

Infinite mode is a pure score attack: pick a board size from Small (14×9) to Large (28×18), choose how many fruits sit on the board at once, and survive as long as you can while the snake speeds up. The score is difficulty-weighted — bigger boards pay more per fruit, extra fruits on the board pay less — so a high score on hard settings beats easy farming. The leaderboard ranks players by their best score and shows the run time next to it, purely so you can appreciate how long the top runs lasted.

Level Mode — The Endless Climb

Level mode is a campaign through procedurally generated boards: every level adds walls, raises the speed, and grows the fruit target, and every level is guaranteed completable — the generator always leaves an open path. The Level leaderboard ranks players by the highest level they have ever reached. Resetting to level 1 (to re-earn rewards) never lowers your ranking: your best level stays on the board forever.

Earn Coins While You Play

In Infinite mode you bank 10 XP per fruit and 1 coin per 25 fruits at the Classic baseline, scaled by the difficulty multiplier shown next to the board settings. Level mode pays 250 XP and 2 coins per clear, with 50-coin level skips for walls you just can't beat and a 50-coin reset that lets you farm the ladder again. Coins are shared across the whole CPSCount site, so your snake grind also unlocks themes and cursor trails in the Shop.

Snake Leaderboard FAQ

How is the snake leaderboard ranked?

It depends on the mode. The Infinite board ranks players by their highest score — the time column simply shows how long that run lasted, it does not affect the ranking. The Level board ranks players by the highest level they have ever reached in the procedurally generated campaign.

Does the run time affect my Infinite ranking?

No. Infinite mode is ranked purely by score. The run time is displayed next to each entry just for people's understanding — so you can see whether a top score came from a five-minute sprint or an hour-long marathon.

Will resetting my levels lower my Level ranking?

No. The Level board tracks the highest level you have ever reached. Resetting to level 1 for 50 coins only rewinds your current position so you can earn the per-level rewards again — your best level stays on the leaderboard.
