Dead Pixel Test

Use full-screen solid colors to find dead pixels, stuck pixels, bright dots and display defects.

Fill your screen with nine pure solid colors one at a time. A pixel that will not change color stands out against a clean background.

How it works

  1. Turn brightness to maximum and wipe the screen clean.
  2. Click Enter Full Screen. The screen turns solid white.
  3. Use arrow keys or tap to cycle through white, red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, gray and black.
  4. On each color, look for any pixel that stays the wrong color. Check corners and edges too.
  5. Press Esc or the close button to exit.

Dead Pixel Test and Stuck Pixel Checker

What this dead pixel test does

The test fills your screen with solid colors so defective pixels stand out against white, black, red, green and blue fields.

Dead pixel vs stuck pixel

A dead pixel usually stays black. A stuck pixel stays red, green, blue or bright because one sub-pixel is stuck on.

How to inspect the screen properly

Clean the panel, increase brightness, go full screen and scan every color slowly, including corners and edges.

Why solid color screens work

Photos and webpages hide tiny defects. A clean color field makes a single wrong pixel easier to see.

Can a stuck pixel be fixed?

Sometimes color cycling or very gentle pressure helps, but a truly dead pixel usually needs panel repair or replacement.

Warranty and return checks

Run the test when a monitor, laptop, phone or TV is new so you can use the return window if defects appear.

Dead Pixel Test - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the dead pixel test?
Clean the screen, set brightness high, enter full screen and move through the solid colors while looking for pixels that stay wrong.
What is the difference between dead and stuck pixels?
A dead pixel usually stays black. A stuck pixel stays lit as red, green, blue or white.
Which colors should I use?
Use white, black, red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow and gray to expose different pixel problems.
Why use full screen and maximum brightness?
Full screen removes distractions, and higher brightness makes tiny pixel defects easier to see.
Can a stuck pixel be fixed?
Sometimes, but there is no guarantee. A truly dead pixel normally cannot be repaired without replacing the panel.
Is one dead pixel covered by warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer and display class, so check the exact return or warranty policy.
Does this work on phones and TVs?
Yes. On phones, tap to change color. On TVs, open the page in a browser or cast accurately.
Could it be dust instead of a dead pixel?
Yes. Wipe the screen first. Dust moves or disappears when cleaned; a pixel defect stays in the same location.
